By Dr. Allen F. Fielding, DMD, MD, MBA

Dear ACOMS members:

The American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ACOMS) is not just an organization; it provides a gateway to numerous benefits for our members — residents and seasoned professionals alike. The following benefits are ones I’ve found at ACOMS, and I’m grateful to be part of providing in my role as ACOMS president.

1.       Nurturing Future Excellence

ACOMS is firmly committed to nurturing the future of our field, and we’re honored to provide resources for residents looking for guidance. Through resident meetings, we provide a platform for sharing cases, exchanging experiences, and gaining insights from peers nationwide. Our commitment to mentorship is also key. Through networking, seasoned professionals who belong to ACOMS help residents by providing them not only with jobs but with the knowledge we have gained in our private practices, as well as the skills and techniques valuable for this field, especially in the operating room. Doing so cements the trajectory of success for those just beginning.

2.       Empowering Education

Education is at the heart of ACOMS, and our commitment to empowering members through these offerings is unwavering. Our continuing education (CE) resources are easily accessible to members at home, work, and on the go through ACOMS Anywhere. This resource enables members to stay abreast of the latest trends and techniques in OMS, allowing us to embrace growth and innovation together. We look forward to new releases of the series this Fall under the leadership of Dr. Dina Amin and Dr. Ashley Manlove.

3.       Connection and Innovation

Our national meetings showcase members’ innovative techniques and expertise while also fostering collaboration with industry vendors, facilitating access to the most current tools and technology. The impact of these meetings goes beyond networking, as they are catalyst for partnerships that drive discoveries.

As president of ACOMS, I’ve taken advantage of the resources offered through ACOMS, and they’ve empowered myself and my practice to improve. As our membership navigates challenges and celebrates triumphs, we elevate the standards of our profession collectively. I encourage all our members to stay engaged with the college — in doing so, we shape not only our individual practices but the landscape and future of OMS.

Sincerely,
Dr. Allen F. Fielding, DMD, MD, MBA
